Congratulations to the Jazz department for outstanding performances at the Royal Jazz Festival!!! Both the AM Studio Jazz Ensemble and PM Studio Jazz Ensemble earned Superior ratings, with the AM Studio Jazz Ensemble placing third in the Advanced Division, while the PM Studio Jazz Ensemble earned second place in the Heavy Division. The PM Studio Jazz Ensemble saxes were named the top sax section of the whole festival.
Moorpark High School’s Jazz program is one of great success over the years. It has grown in numbers to nearly 70 students this year. We have 3 full jazz ensembles running both semesters of the school year. The bands perform many times throughout the year and also take part in jazz festivals throughout Southern California and beyond during second semester. We have many staff members in the Jazz Program including Director of Bands Robert Hackett, Director of Jazz B Band Mike Gangemi, and Assistant Director of Bands Daniel Cook. We also bring in professional musicians, clinicians and guest performers to work with our Jazz students yearly. We encourage all students to attend live jazz to fully appreciate this unique language of music.
