Moorpark High School’s PM Studio Jazz Ensemble is an advanced jazz ensemble comprised of the most advanced jazz musicians our school has to offer led by Director Robert Hackett and Assistant Director Daniel Cook. This is an auditioned group. This ensemble plays all the styles of Jazz including swing, Latin, rock, funk and contemporary. The ensemble rehearses first semester for only 2 days a week on Tuesday and Thursday and also has sectionals on Wednesday mornings. The band continues their study of improvisation and ensemble playing while playing college and professional level literature.
They are currently auditioning for the Ellington Festival that takes place in New York. Second semester they will attend numerous Jazz Festivals across the Southern California. The ensemble plays many concerts throughout the year as well as other “gigs”. In the past we have been privileged to work with such musicians as Carl Allen, Ron Carter, Tom Connell, Matt Finders, Isaac Jenkins, Kyle Luck, Ira Nepus, Gary Pratt, Jason Scheff, Jerry Steinholst, Ernie Towler, and Chuck Wood.
